CULTURAL RESOURCES FIELD TECHNICIAN

The position is based out of our Columbus, Ohio office and is a full-time position. We work on a variety of projects that require compliance with federal, state and local regulations, and we are committed to excellence in our work. The field technician will join our team for Phase I archaeological surveys. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of a field supervisor/Principal Investigator to conduct fieldwork, including pedestrian surveys, shovel test pit excavations, site recording, and data collection. You will accurately record archaeological data, including site forms, field notes, and GPS data collection. In addition, you may assist in the identification and preliminary analysis of cultural artifacts and features; and work collaboratively with the field team and communicate effectively with the team and supervisor regarding the field conditions and findings.

Candidates should have the ability to conduct Phase I fieldwork (both shovel testing and surface collection) as part of a team, ability to record data in the field and report results to the field director.

The base workweek is forty (40) hours and hours worked in excess of forty regular hours per week will be compensated at 1.5 times your hourly rate. The typical workweek will be Monday through Friday, although depending on weather or project schedule, weekend work may be considered. The job locations are local to the Columbus, Ohio metropolitan area.

Qualifications

Candidates should have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology or a closely related field, completed ‘field school’, and prior fieldwork experience preferably in the Ohio Valley region. Familiarity with both prehistoric and historic artifact identification is a necessity.

The work may be physically demanding and work environment described here are representative of those that an employee in the above-listed position(s) will encounter and must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Use of electronic standard desktop and portable office equipment.
  • The ability to tolerate outdoor weather conditions and be exposed to outdoor insects, poisonous plants, and allergens for extended periods of time (8-10 hours per day throughout the year).
  • The ability to walk for extended periods of time and the ability to maneuver over rough terrain, ditches, steep banks and uneven ground.
  • Must be able to carry up to 40 lbs. of equipment/materials while walking across terrain.
  • Intermittent squatting, leaning, twisting and bending.
  • Use of hand equipment or tools.

All candidates must pass a pre-employment background check.

Must be legally authorized and permitted to work in the United States without time limitation.
